DEALERSHIP GOOGLE ADS STRATEGY

Automation is a tool. It should not be your entire dealership advertising strategy.

Google Ads can automate bids, audiences, placements, creative combinations and budget decisions. Some of those tools are useful. USI Digital Marketing does not believe that means a dealership should give up control of how its advertising dollars are spent.

Why USI keeps human control in the process

An algorithm can see conversion signals. It does not sit in your sales meeting, know which aging units need attention, understand why a certain floorplan suddenly matters, or know that your dealership wants to push one market while pulling back from another.

That is why USI combines Google’s technology with active human management. We want automation helping the strategy, not replacing it.

Where automation can help

  • Conversion measurement and data collection
  • Responsive ad combinations
  • Audience signals and remarketing support
  • Pattern recognition across large data sets
  • Selected bidding strategies when the conversion data and business goal justify them

Where USI prefers active oversight

  • Search terms: We review what people actually typed, not just the keyword that matched.
  • Bid pressure: We question whether a click is worth what the platform wants to pay.
  • Geography: Dealer markets should be shaped around inventory, buyer travel behavior and budget.
  • Negative keywords: Wasted intent needs to be actively removed.
  • Inventory priorities: Campaigns should change when inventory changes.
  • Competitor strategy: Conquesting requires deliberate targets and careful economics.
  • Budget allocation: Search, Display and other campaign types should earn their share of the budget.

Why this matters to cost per click

USI has historically managed many dealership campaigns in roughly the $0.40 to $1.00-per-click range, depending on market conditions and campaign type. Some campaigns have performed below that range.

For example, one historical RV dealership campaign generated 9,350 clicks from $2,982.34 in spend, producing an actual average CPC of approximately $0.32. A historical marine campaign generated 4,491+ monthly clicks from approximately $2,000 in spend, or roughly $0.45 per click.

Those examples do not mean every campaign should cost $0.32 or $0.45 per click. They do demonstrate why USI pays close attention to what a click is actually worth instead of simply accepting whatever an automated system is willing to bid.

Manual does not mean outdated

There is an important difference between rejecting automation and controlling it.

USI uses modern Google Ads tools. We simply believe the dealership should remain in control of the business strategy behind them.

If automated bidding is producing qualified opportunities at an efficient cost, it can be useful. If it begins consuming budget on weak traffic, expensive clicks or the wrong geography, the answer should not be to wait indefinitely for the algorithm to “learn.” The account needs human attention.

A useful question for every dealer

Do not ask only, “Is my agency using Google’s newest automation?”

Ask:

“Can my agency explain why the campaign is spending what it is spending, where the traffic is coming from, what a click costs, and whether those visitors match the inventory we are trying to sell?”

If that answer is unclear, more automation is unlikely to solve the underlying problem.
